March 1974
Washing clothes is a girl's never-ending
chore here, and it is a "job." The water is first drawn from the well. This water is brackish,
salty, and smelly.
Some sort of scraper is used to scrub the cloth as it is stretch across a piece of plywood,
then hang-wrung. The strong sun
drys
everything "stiff." Everything is
washed including zorries, and my brand-new leather Bernardo sandals. (Smile.) << | >>
