Commander U.S. Pacific Fleet and Pacific Partnership Team Vists Marshall Islands

The Marshall Island phase of Pacific Partnership’s four-month deployment reflects the longstanding ties between the U.S. and the Marshall Islands aand reflects America’s compassion for the people of the Western Pacific region with whom Americans share common bonds.

The official commencement of the mission, with the arrival of Admiral Robert Willard, Commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet and members of the Pacific Partnership, will begin at approximately 11 a.m., on August 29, at the Republic of the Marshall Islands Capitol Building.

Pacific Partnership is a multi-country goodwill mission that brings together U.S. Military personnel with the host nation government; medical and engineering specialists from non-governmental organizations (NGOs); and third-country medical and engineering personnel. These military and civilian volunteers will offer humanitarian-assistance programs ashore and afloat during their visit to the Republic of the Marshal Islands.

USS Peleliu is a multipurpose U.S. Navy amphibious ship that has been deployed for the Pacific Partnership mission. Onboard the ship are the crew of the USS Peleliu; public health and medical personnel from the U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force, and U.S. Army; personnel from the Navy Mobile Construction Battalion; a U.S. Pacific Fleet Surgical Team; medical specialists from NGOs; and third-country medical and engineering personnel. The NGOs onboard include Project Hope, Aloha Medical Mission, and the University of California at San Diego Pre-Dental Society.

The American people and U.S. Navy are committed to working with their partners to assist people in need of humanitarian outreach.

Pacific Partnership will also provide valuable experience for U.S. Military medical personnel by ensuring they have the relationships and knowledge to rapidly respond to relief efforts in the Asia-Pacific Region, as requested by our friends and neighbors.
