From the OCEANIA NATIONAL OLYMPIC COMMITTEES:
The Marshall Islands will be participating in its first Olympic Games this year in Beijing. And to make this historic event more special is that one of their athletes, Anju Jason, has qualified in his own right to represent his nation in the sport of Taekwondo.
At the Oceania Taekwondo Olympic Qualification Tournament held in Noumea, New Caledonia in December, Anju won the gold medal in the 80kh weight class which earned him his ticket to Beijing in August.
Anju, a black belt in Taekwondo, has been training with Coach Brian McCutcheon for the past ten years and has consistently medalled in US National events. Now he will have the chance to perform on the biggest sports stage of all.
Thanks to his qualification, ONOC and Olympic Solidarity have offered Anju an Olympic Scholarship to assist with his preparations leading up the Olympic Games.
